Midwives are a group of characters in the novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, and the musical, Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz.
In both the novel and musical, they help to give birth to Elphaba Thropp and the musical version of Elphaba.
In The Novels
A fishwife and an old woman were convinced by Frexspar The Godly to help deliver his daughter, Elphaba Thropp. After the delivery they are disgusted by her greenness and try to kill her, but they end up being convinced not to do this.
In The Musical
An Antelope helps deliver Elphaba while her father and mother are disgusted by the fact that she is green.
